The work is linked directly to nationality, a private discussion about my feelings created by moving from Poland to the Netherlands. Feelings of a loss of identity created by this displacement, a contrast in cultures that are so similar yet totally distant. This perceived tension is what makes the works dynamic, as I try to reconnect with my country and become polish again. At the same time I'm aware that this is not tangible. Humorous almost. As these are only depictions, represented on flat paper. The intense, heavy black contrasts totally against the white lines, giving a clinical feeling, a seriousness to the subject. This confrontation allows the viewer to lose themselves in the work, disconnecting from their own nationality.

My work is a personal exploration, both an examination of myself and of a more generalized idea of culture and identity. The humor contained should not just be seen as a joke, rather as a way to expose the stigmatisation of polish immigrants.
